Team President, Peter Maccinetto ("Truth")

Sunset Water Sunset Water Polo is an expression of life. Sometime we are born into new experiences and sometimes we are gasping for our last breath. With this gang of hulligans, you are never quite sure what is around the 4-meter marker.
Yes, we have a Mission Statement. Yes, we have a Board of Directors. Yes, we are headquartered in San Diego. But there is more.
You see, Sunset Water Polo provides the next step in one's water polo career. It's a step in the right direction for some. As one recent member put it, "You guys are awesome". Another member put it this way, "I can't believe the Babes these guys travel with." Late one night, one new member claimed, "Are the mugs getting heavier or am I just drinking more beer?" Unfortunately, it's the step in the wrong direction for others. "I was expecting someone to pick up my travel costs." Not a good fit. "I need to be home before 9:00pm". Square peg, round hole. "Go USC!" hmmmmmmm, would only work in a very, very unique situation.
Enough of everyone else quotes, how about one of mine. It's a true one too. "We have yet to live the stories we will tell in the future." Ahhhh, the Sunset Stories. If you aren't careful you might end up in one of them. That is the TRUTH. Out!
President MacCennetto

Shitty Team Captain, Buc Buchanan.

Ultimately the desire to spend time with different individuals has everything to with your personal enjoyment level. Sunset Water Polo is all about having fun. The reason we have stayed together for so long has to do with the fact that we bond and feel comfortable. It's a home away from home. You can hang with a bunch of great friends who know you and make you whole. It doesn't matter what you talk about. It could be family stuff, it could be job connections, it could be polo but mainly it's just BS. We're good at that. Many of us competed together or against each other in the past, now we have become family. It's a lot like "Cheers" with a workout.
The experiences together have been long-lasting and often recited. We recall the "trilogy” grind, cherish the $2 cup for all you can drink at Ft Lauderdale, laugh when we think of USC shooting on themselves, feel at home at Joe’s and wear Black Shirts with pride. But in the end, we grow, both as a family and around the waist. It’s who we are and it makes us strong. Indeed we are rich, grounded in comradery, focused on inclusion and dedicated toward everlasting storytelling. We can tell stories. THE Row, Sham Bow beer festival in Australia, the priceless Mussolini impersonation by Sodi, Larry’s profound statement that “Everything is normal”, Tommy getting Life (clearly that launched Dana’s career). Or how about the cricket story or the Motor Home To Hell saga. I could go on and we often do. That’s what it’s all about. Remembering the past, living in the present and creating activities for stories in the future. As the esteemed Shitty Team Captain, I bear a tremendous responsibilities. I’m tasked with furthering the fun ratio, allowing our squad to excel and maintaining our focus. If I fail, the team elects a shittier team captain and I’m off the hook. In the end it just doesn’t matter but to say that we have tradition and purpose. Our families are proud of us and we think we are funny. Thanks for reading and always remember: Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then, I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

COACH Denny Harper

Reuters newswire. Dateline Perth, Australia, April 26, 2008
Newport Helps Olympic Club 30+ win Gold, Harper signs with Olympic
A huge victory by Newport over the Russian Beavers at the 12th Fina Masters Games handed the Gold to the Olympic Club 30+ team. Newport spotted the Ruskies a 4-2 lead at half, then beat them 4-0 in the second half for a 6-4 win. Newport, who had three Sunset team members, was cheered on by the entire O Club entourage including Sunset CEO and coach Denny Harper. Firing up the crowd was Sunset member Jason Bois who, as the crowd was cheering, did his best to fire up the crowd by waving his arms like Kobe Bryant trying to get a jury to look the other way. Harper added to the atmosphere by waving his Amex gold card and pledging "You win, I buy." At the post game party in the bar, Harper also commented that the members of the Russian team who lost would "be in Siberia doing hard time by the end of the week."
In related news, at a birthday celebration with some of the Olympic Club water polo execs it was announced that Sunset CEO Denny Harper had signed a long term deal to coach the O Club. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a source close to the deal confirmed that is was a 6 figure deal with a large amount of swag included. Some of the figures included in the deal were a cylinder (beer can) and a pear (body). Also part of the deal was a Barry Zito autographed SF Giants jersey which Harper thought was cool until he heard that Zito was 0-6 with an ERA of 11.0. He commented "Why couldn't you get a jersey signed by someone better and who is a good citizen like Barry Bonds?" When asked about the change, Harper responded "I know the Sunset guys can party for a weekend, but the O Club guys showed me how to party for 14 days and still get some hardware." Harper, who coached all three O Club teams, received a gold medal from the 30+ team, Silver from the 45+, and a bronze from the 40+ team.
A casualty of the deal is current O Club water polo coach and Sunset drinking coach Pat Murphy. Murphy, who was at the celebration when the Harper's signing was announced, was visibly distraught. Those in attendance saw Murphy throw his drink down and shout "You are all WANKERS!" then stormed out of the party. Those in attended were not sure if it was the signing of Harper or the 14 Singapore Slings Murphy had consumed. Sources say that he is in negotiation to take over the top spot at Sunset as Head / Drinking Coach. Phone calls to Murphy's agent were not returned.
