Sunset A and B Teams in Seattle, 1991

Club History

Sunset San Diego Water Polo was founded in 1976 by Denny L. Harper, a southern California native and the University of California, San Diego Men's Water Polo Team's Head Coach. Our "home pools" are the Canyonview Pool at UCSD and the Coggin Aquatics Center at La Jolla High School.
The Men's team has hoisted the Indoor National Championship cup three times, and in 2007, the Sunset Men's 30's won the U.S. Masters Nationals Championships in Irvine, Ca.
The Men's teams have competed abroad and hosted National Teams from Yugoslavia, Russia, West Germany, Singapore and Japan. Sunset has had other notable achievements, including a Guinness World Record (Longest Water Polo Game: 26 hours).
Also, in 1991, Sunset qualified TWO teams for the U.S. MEN'S OUTDOOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in Seattle, WA., a noteworthy accomplishment.
The Sunset Women's Teams have had a great deal of success with 8 Senior Titles and numerous Summer and Winter titles.
Sunset is managed by a Board of Directors, who arrange for participation in competitions, social/family events, fund-raisers and charities. Membership to the club is by invitation or through sponsorship. We are happy to consider players from any age group or waterpolo background (even Trojans.)
