The WOODY'S CUP

History: The coveted "Woody's Cup" (borrowed from Woody's Famous BBQ Pit in Santa Barbara in the spring of 1977) is the trophy awarded to the winner of the official, annual intra-club polo game. The 'A' Team (old guys who know a lot of tricks and are very deliberate and wealthy) is pitted against the 'B' Team (youthful, speedy collegians who are generally afraid and who think the game is played in the pool.)
In the 23 year history of "The Cup", the 'B' Team has only hoisted this magnificant Grail 5 times ('86, '90, '95, 2000 and 2001). On August 4, 2001, in a stunning overtime victory, Sunset A defeated the B's 9-8 to take back the CUP!
The Woody's Cup is currently on display along-side the "Americas Cup" and the "Stanley Cup" in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. When on tour, the Cup is displayed in Jefferson's pool room.
